Episode Notes

What is the role of purpose in business? And what does a conscious company look like in 2022? The number of B Corp certifications is rising rapidly, and purpose is becoming more mainstream, but we still have a long way to go toward building a racially just, regenerative economy. This week on Purpose Works, we welcome Ryan Honeyman, a Partner / Worker-Owner at LIFT Economy, an impact consulting firm, and co-author of The B Corp Handbook: How to Use Business as a Force for Good.

When it comes to helping businesses become certified B Corps, Ryan is “the guy” everyone turns to for advice. He has helped over 50 companies — like Patagonia, Allbirds, Ben & Jerry’s, King Arthur Flour, Tanka Bar, Animikii, and Red Bay Coffee — become certified, re-certify, and maximize the value of their B Corp certification. Ryan is also a cohost of the Next Economy Now podcast and a cofounder of the Force for Good Fund, which invests in women and POC-owned “Best for the World” B Corps. He has written articles for Stanford Social Innovation Review, Fast Company, Huffington Post, and many more, and Ryan has spoken extensively at many conferences and top business schools about B Corps and what he calls a whole-systems approach to using business as a force for good.

In this episode of Purpose Works, Ryan and host Maren Keeley, cofounder & CEO of Handprint, discuss how businesses are evolving with the purpose economy and adapting to cultural shifts that demand greater responsibility and action on matters of social justice and climate change.
